The Minor Illness Advanced Nurse Practitioner -led Clinic
At the Johnson Medical Practice we have an advanced Nurse Practitioner clinic Monday to Friday am & pm. The clinic is designed to help the patients at the Practice to access medical advice and treatment quickly and easily for a range of illnesses.
The Minor Illness Clinics are run by our specially trained Nurse Practitioners who are able to offer advice and prescription treatment where appropriate, so that you are seen quickly.
Our Practice Nurses - Jenny
Practice nurses are qualified and registered nurses. They can help with health issues such as family planning, healthy living advice, childhood vaccinations and travel vaccinations. The practice nurses run clinics for long-term health conditions such as asthma ,COPD, diabetes and carry out cervical smears.
Healthcare assistants support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as phlebotomy (blood tests) including children's blood test, blood pressure measurement, ear syringing, new patient health checks, NHS health checks for the over 40s*, provisional Diabetic & Asthma/COPD checks, smoking cessation clinics, dietary advice and many more tasks. They will assist the GP with minor surgery and may act as a chaperone when requested by a patient or doctor.

The Business Development manager is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises, equipment and information technology. The manager supports the GPs, Reception/Administration staff and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.

Our team of administration staff at the practice manage patient records - ensuring that patients medical information is accurate and kept up to date. Hospital letters and incoming communicatin from other departments is scanned into the patient records so it is quicker and easier for the doctor to see what has been discussed at your hospital appointments.
The administration team are responsible for Inviting patients with chronic disease and long term conditions to the surgery for a range of reviews. The team will contact you via telephone, sms text messaging and includes sending out invitation letters to patients to book in for these reviews.
We have a team of 8 receptionists over both our sites , Our receptionists are here to help you make appointments to see the doctors and nurses, organise your repeat prescriptions and generally deal with your enquiries and help you with other questions you may have about our services. If they cannot answer a query they will find someone else who can or phone you back. Some receptionists can speak gujrati/punjabi/hindi.
It is our aim to offer a friendly and helpful service and all our Receptionists will endeavour to assist you wherever possible. Please remember that the Receptionists have a responsible job and often work under a great deal of pressure, they also have to follow practice policies and doctors’ instructions, so please allow for this and be patient.
We have a team of midwives from the Leicester General Hospital who visit the practice to ensure your pregnancy goes as smoothly as possible. The midwives will ensure all tests, checks and the monitoring of your pregnancy are carried out at prescribed intervals. They will also help you choose where you want to give birth, what to do after the birth and advise you on claims and grants available. Once it has been confirmed that you are pregnant, please inform the reception and they will ensure that the midwife puts you on their list. The midwife will then contact you to arrange a first booking either at the surgery or at your home, depending on your needs.

A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing.

Two counsellors attend the surgery on a weekly basis and see patients referred by the doctors with anxiety, stress, depression, relationship problems, breavement and other issues.
